Frequently Asked Questions

What is a holistic health coach?

A Holistic Health Coach supports you to create and achieve long lasting, meaningful change in your life by taking into consideration your emotional, physical, spiritual and mental self (a whole person approach).  A Holistic Health Coach facilitates change by helping you gain self-awareness, insight, clarity and confidence to create and take actionable steps towards personal fulfilment, greater happiness, less stress/anxiety and personal achievement.

What is holistic health coaching?

Coaching is both change and solutions focused, meaning it can help you 'close the gap' between where you are at now in your life (e.g. stressed and anxious) and where you want to be (e.g. calm and resilient). Often we know that 'something' needs changing in our lives, but many people struggle with 'how' to make long-lasting change. This is where a health coach comes in - helping you increase your self-awareness around your thoughts, feelings and behaviours and increasing your confidence to take small achievable steps to create healthy change and improve your overall sense of wellbeing. Coaching can also include the use of tools, education, activities or resources to help you gain insight and clarity.

What coaching isn't.

Unless coaches have other complimentary qualifications, we do not provide counselling or therapy; we do not diagnose or prescribe medications; nor do we provide instruction where we are not qualified.

I have a Masters Degree in Organisational Psychology so may draw on that knowledge and experience where appropriate, but I no longer practice as a registered psychologist. I also have a Certificate in Career Theory and Practice and worked as a Career Counsellor for a few years so I may also draw on that knowledge and experience where appropriate.

It is important to understand that coaches do not ‘fix’ people, give advice, make judgements or assumptions.

Rather, we create a safe space for you to talk, explore and be open.

Who is holistic health coaching for? Coaching is helpful if:

  • You are not sure what you want or how to go about it getting it.

  • You lack the knowledge or know-how to get started.

  • You are feeling stuck or are doing nothing because you feel so overwhelmed.

  • You are struggling to create change on your own due to challenges, fear or self-sabotage.

  • You are looking for someone to help you go beyond your own limitations or to provide a different perspective.

  • You want to change your habits to more healthy and productive ones.

  • You need accountability to stick to a plan with encouragement and support.

Why is the coaching package 10 weeks long?

If you truly want to make life-long change to improve your mental wellbeing and build resilience, it takes time, commitment and regular practice to form healthy new habits. Coaching is not a quick fix; you need to be committed and ready to change and prepared to put in the effort. The more you put into each session, the more you will get out of them and the better your results will be.

What is covered in the 10 week package?

This is a difficult question to answer, as each session is tailored specifically for you. You decide what you would like the focus of each session to be. I do not follow a template or an agenda, but I do follow a guide for structuring each session to ensure we cover everything in a timely manner.

In general however, sessions may cover areas like:

  • Defining your current mental state or the cause of your mental state as you perceive it.

  • Increasing self-awareness of your thoughts, feelings and behaviours as well as identifying any self-limiting beliefs, self-sabotage or what is keeping you stuck.

  • Clarifying your current values and needs (finding your purpose or your 'why').

  • Identifying your strengths, building self-confidence and feelings of self-worth.

  • Challenging your old, outdated beliefs and rewriting new, healthy, true beliefs that serve you better.

  • Introducing tools, education, resources or activities to reduce your stress and anxiety and build resilience.

  • Choosing small actionable steps to take and problem-solving obstacles that may stop you from achieving them.
